Arrest warrant against BUET teacher Nikhil over bank questions leak
PBC NEWS DESK: A court in Dhaka has issued arrest warrant against Professor Nikhil Ranjan Dhar, a teacher of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), after accepting charges against him.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Shahidul Islam issued the arrest warrant accepting a supplementary chargesheet on Sunday (February 5, 2023).The arrest warrant has been issued in a case filed over bank recruitment test questions leak in November 2021.
The court also asked Keshabpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) of Jashore district to submit a progress report on execution of the arrest warrant by March 9.
Earlier on January 31 last, investigation officer (IO) of the case and detective branch’s sub-inspector Shamim Ahmed submitted a supplementary chargesheet to the Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court.
The IO had shown Nikhil Dhar as ‘absconding’ in the chargesheet and pleaded to the court to issue an arrest warrant against him as he did not sought bail from any court.
On November 16 last year, the same IO submitted a charge sheet, relieving Prof Nikhil as an accused from the case.
Following the question leak in recruitment tests of five state-owned banks on November 6, 2021, the detectives have so far arrested 11 people.Photos of the question papers with answers went viral on social media even before the exam ended.
Initially, Bangladesh Bank ignored the question leak complaints and did not make any immediate inquiry.
Later, it cancelled the examination as several media outlets carried reports suggesting the question had been leaked.Earlier, Professor Nikhil Ranjan Dhar was also relieved of his post of the head of the Industrial and Production Engineering Department
