3 DU students arrested, sent to jail on charge of mugging
PBC NEWS DESK: Police have arrested three students of Dhaka University while collecting toll of Tk 50,000 from a covered van driver after they had waylaid the vehicle in front of BUET mosque.
DMP Shahbagh Police Station SI Omar Sani Nayeem confirmed the matter to media on Monday morning.Police caught the three red-handed on Saturday night while they were trying to flee.
The arrested students are Fazle Nabid Sakil, 19, of Department of Theatre; Rahat Rahman, 21, of Management Department; and Sadiq Ahammed, 20, of Social Work.
SI Omar Sani said the three students demanded Tk 50,000 to a covered van driver in front of BUET mosque.
Later, they snatched away Tk 15,000 from the driver. Then, the driver started shouting.Hearing sound, a patrol team of police with the help of Chawkbazar police caught the three from the scene.
Covered van driver Abu Taher said, “Three persons riding on two motorcycle waylaid his vehicle around 2:30am on Sunday while he was heading towards Tongi with younger brother.
Later they beat up us and snatched away Tk 15,000 from us.”Abu Taher filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station over the incident. The three students were sent to jail on Sunday following a court order.
