Gulshan fire death toll rises to two, 18-member medical board formed
PBC NEWS DESK: The death toll from Sunday’s fire at a residential building in Gulshan-2 rose to two as another victim died at a hospital in the capital on Monday morning.
Raju Mia Shikder, who sustained burn injuries during the fire incident, breathed his last around 3:30am at Zainul Haque Sikder Women’s Medical College & Hospital (Pvt.) Ltd, said Mustakim Badsha, manager of the hospita.
He worked as a cook in an apartment on the seventh floor.Raju jumped off the building when the blaze broke out on the sixth floor of a 12-storey building and ripped through top seven floors. Several people were injured in the fire.
Anwar Hossain, who was the caretaker of BCB director Fahim Sinha of 12th floor of the building, died soon after he jumped down.
Fahim Sinha’s wife Shama Rahman Sinha was also critically injured and is undergoing treatment at the intensive care Unit of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. She too jumped off the building that caught fire.
Meanwhile, an 18-members medical board has been formed for the treatment of three people who were injured in the fire. They are being treated at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Prof Rayhana Awwal, director of the institute, is leading the team.Dr Samanta Lal Sen, the coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said, “18-member medical board has been formed.
Prof Rayhana Awwal is the head of this team. I am also on this board.”The three patients are Shama Rahman Sinha, 37, wife of Fahim Sinha, wife of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director; Md Musa Sikder, 33, a driver; and Rawshan Ali, 30, an office assistant.
Fire Service and Civil Defence has formed a five-member probe committee.
The head of the investigation committee is Director (Operation and Maintenance) Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, while the members are deputy director (Operation and Maintenance), the assistant director, the deputy assistant director of Gulshan Zone and the officer-in-charge of the local fire station.
