Court summons Barrister Suman in Golap’s defamation case
PBC NEWS DESK: A court has issued summon against Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Huque Suman in connection with a Tk 500 crore defamation and compensation case filed by Awami League lawmaker Abdus Sobhan Golap.
He was directed to submit his replies in written appearing before the court in person on March 23 next.Dhaka’s Third Joint District Judge Md Aminul Islam issued the summon on Thursday (March 2, 2023).
Abdus Sobhan Golap MP from Madaripur-3 constituency filed the defamation case against Barrister Suman on February 16 last for spreading false and defamatory information about his houses in the United States on social media.
In the case statement, the plaintiff said Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Suman on January 17 spread false and defamatory information about him on Facebook.
“Suman propagated that Abdus Sobhan Golap laundered money by becoming a member of parliament in 2014-2015 which is not true. Abdus Sobhan became a member of parliament in the 2018 national election,” read the case statement.
“After becoming a member of parliament, he [Sobhan] did not buy a house in the United States,” it added.
