ACC can sack employees without showing reasons: SC
PBC NEWS DESK: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) can sack its employees without showing any reason, said the Appellate Division in a judgement on Thursday.
The Appellate Division on Thursday overturned a High Court order that had cancelled a section of the ACC.Now, the anti-graft body’s provision to dismiss employees without show-cause will be upheld.
An eight-member bench of the apex court led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique delivered the verdict after granting an appeal filed by the ACC challenging the HC judgement.
The ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said as per the court order, former ACC deputy assistant director Sharif Uddin cannot get back his job.
Senior Advocate Salahuddin Dolon represented Sharif in court, while senior Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC.
On February 16, 2021, the ACC sacked Sharif under Section 54(2) of the ACC.Advocate Mia Mohammad Ishtiaque had filed a writ petition on behalf of Sharif in March 2022. The court on Thursday also rejected the writ.
