On January 7, 2025, Bangladesh observed the 14th anniversary of Felani Khatun’s tragic death, where the 15-year-old girl was shot and left hanging on barbed wire at the Bangladesh-India border by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in 2011. In commemoration of “Felani Day,” the New York-based organization “Patriots of Bangladesh” held a protest demanding justice and the renaming of the road in front of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka as “Felani Street.” The protest emphasized the need for accountability for Felani’s murder and for the BSF to act with more restraint. Community leaders and activists, including Abdus Sabur and Abdul Kader, voiced their concerns about border violence and human rights violations. The event concluded with a memorandum submission to the Bangladesh Consulate, seeking justice for Felani and her family.
