Bangladesh starts administering China’s vaccine
PBC News: The Directorate of Health on Saturday started mass vaccination programme across the country for the second time with 11 lakh doses of Sinopharm vaccine gifted by the Chinese government.
The vaccination drive resumed after two and a half months by setting up a centre at each district in the country on Saturday morning.
Besides, administering the vaccine began at four booths set up at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Sir Salimullah Medical College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Mugda Medical College Hospitals in capital.
Only registered people are allowed to receive the vaccine. The people, who did not get the first dose including health workers, police officials, migrant workers, students of public dental and medical college hospitals, are being given priority during the vaccination programme.
Ten types of people have been selected to qualify for receiving the vaccine. Besides, directive has been issued to refrain from administering the vaccine to six categories of people.
The government first started the vaccination programme on February 7 with the Covishield’s Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccines bought from Serum Institute of India.
The administration of the first dose has remained suspended since April 26. The country has also suspended the registration for Covid-19 jabs due to vaccine shortage amid a delay in the arrival of shipments from India.
So far, 72,48,829 people in the country have filled up their registration for COVID vaccine. of them, 58,20,015 have been given the first dose.
