94.5 lakh SIM card users leave Dhaka on Eid-ul-Azha
It was disclosed by Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostofa Jabbar providing the statistics of SIM cards carrying individuals who have gone outside the capital.
He provided the statistics on social media Facebook on Thursday (July 22) night.
Giving statistics, the minister writes: “I have received the statistics of the carriers left Dhaka from July 15 to 21. During the period, 94,53,083 SIM cards carriers have left Dhaka.”
However, the minister said it is not the statistics about the number of human beings. “According to our numerical statistics, the number of SIM cards per head is 1.70. Besides, those are below 18 years and those who don’t have NID cards, they have no SIM cards.”
The statistics is based on the SIM cards of four mobile phone operators–Grameenphone Limited, Robi Axiata Limited, Banglalink Digital Communications and Teletalk Bangladesh Limited. The statistics shows that a total of 44,94,614 customers of Grameenphone have left Dhaka from July 15 to 21.
During the same period, 21,54,794 customers of Robi, 24,11,432 customers of Banglalink, and 3,93,143 customers of Teletalk have left Dhaka.
In total, 94,53,983 customers have left Dhaka during the period.
However, experts concerned think that the number of people left Dhaka would be higher than that of mobile phone users. All in a family, particularly younger ones don’t use mobile phones. Again, there are many people who use more than one SIM. More than 1 crore mobile users left Dhaka in the last Eid-ul-Fitr.
