HC stays Sylhet-3 by-election
PBC News: The High Court has stayed the proceedings of holding by-election to Sylhet-3 scheduled for July 28, till August 5.
Responding to a writ petition, a virtual bench of Judge M Enayetur Rahim passed the order on Monday.
Lawyer Mohammad Shishir Monir stood for the petitioner while attorney general AM Amin Uddin, deputy attorneys general Samarendra Nath Biswas and Bipul Bagmar represented the state.
Considering the coronavirus situation in the country, seven local residents in Sylhet and six lawyers filed the public interest litigation writ petition n Monday morning seeking deferral of the by-election.
The lawyers are Mujahidul Islam, Al Reza Mohammad Amir, Md Rahman, Md Jahirul Islam, Misbah Uddin, and Mustafizur Rahman.
On Sunday, SC lawyer Mohammad Shishir Monir served a legal notice to the authorities concerned through e-mail over the issue.
