Country to start Covid vaccination in Rohingya camp
PBC News: Bangladesh will launch Covid-19 vaccination in Rohingya refugee camps at Ukhia and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar district from Tuesday.
All out preparation for vaccination has been taken at 56 centres here.
However, only people aged 55 and above will be vaccinated initially, said Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Shah Rezwan Hayat.
He said a total of 48,000 Tohingyas age above 55 will be vaccinated in first phase.
They will be vaccinated by showing ‘Family Counting Number’.
Palangkhali UP chairman M Gafur Uddin Choudhury praised the vaccination campaign as Rohingyas are tend to not follow the health guidelines.
According to the civil surgeon office, a total of 1,79,197 samples were tested between April 2020 and August 6, 2021, where 19,297 positive cases were found. Of them, 2,654 are Rohingyas.
As many as 207 people died from novel coronavirus. Among the, 29 were Rohingya.
Bangladesh is currently home to nearly 11 lakh Rohingya Muslims who fled the brutal military crackdown in Rakhine state in their home country of Myanmar.
They are living in 34 refugee camps at Ukhia and Teknaf while 18,000 of them were relocated to Bhasanchar in Noakhali district.
