Padma, Jamuna water levels rise, low lying areas flooded
PBC News: The water level in the Padma and Jamuna rivers in Pabna is rising due to continuous rains and downpour. Besides, water has increased in several rivers including Ichamoti, Hurasagar, Gumani and Chalanbil in the district.
The Padma River at Pakshi Hardinge Bridge Point in Ishwardi Upazila is flowing just 16 cm below the danger level. On the other hand, the water level in the Jamuna River is increasing every day in Bera upazila. The water is flowing six centimeters below the danger level.
According to the locals, water is flowing in the low lying areas along the banks of Padma and Jamuna. Fields of various vegetables and crops are being submerged in water. The people on the shores are becoming waterlogged. Many are busy moving house. Many are worried about losing their resources.
Mosharraf Hossain, assistant engineer of the Pabna Water Development Board, said the water level at Hardinge Bridge Point on the Padma River has risen by 18 cm in the last 24 hours.
“The water level at this point is now 14.09 meters. The danger level at Pakshi Hardinge Bridge Point is 14.25 meters. At this point, water is flowing only 16 cm below the danger line.”
