Khokon’s statement on Aug 21 attack is mysterious: Rizvi
PBC News: Former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon’s statement on the August 21 grenade attack is mysterious, said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
“Former mayor Sayeed Khokon gave sensational information yesterday. The day before the attack, her father Hanif had told him (Khokon) that the leader (Sheikh Hasina) could be attacked. Sayeed Khokon informed their leader the day before the incident that an attack could take place, but she did not take cognizance of it. This has raised questions for us. Why did she (Sheikh Hasina) not give importance to this issue? Did not take is as cognizance,” said Rizvi while replying to a question from reporters at National Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday noon.
Rizvi said, “Former mayor Sayeed Khokon gave sensational information yesterday. The day before the attack, her father Hanif had told him (Khokon) that the leader (Sheikh Hasina) could be attacked. Rizvi further said, “The name of our acting chairman did not appear in the chargesheet during the 1/11 government. A lot of investigation happened at that time. But when this government came to power, the people who will join in elections, printed posters, made him the investigating officer who included the name of our acting chairman. It is clear that it is planned, motivated.”
He added, “We have not seen the sincerity in them to find out who is involved through proper investigation. Even when the BNP was in power, they did not cooperate with the party in the investigation.”
The BNP leader said, “The then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia went to visit Sudha Sadan, she was not allowed to enter. They wanted to discuss the investigation, but they did not. All things considered, Sayeed Khokon’s information yesterday suggests that this was done for political gain.”
