EC lacks people’s confidence: GM Quader
PBC News: Jatiya Party (JaPa) chairman GM Quader has said that people’s confidence over the Election Commission has now reached zero. Those who were in state power used the Election Commission for their party interests, he added.
GM Quader made the comment at a meeting at JaPa’s office in Banani in Dhaka on Sunday noon. Earlier, former senior GM of Palli Bidyut Samity Syed Wahidul Islam formally joined the party.
JaPa chairman in his speech said, “Depoliticization is going on in the country, so the parties are not able to survive in the politics of the country. If this continues, the people of the country will not come to politics. People will no longer be able to vote at polling stations.”
He further said, “There will be so-called parties and leaders who will abide by the order of the government. These parties or leaders will not have spontaneous organization; they will not have the support of the people of the country.”
GM Quader said, “Dictatorship has been established in the country constitutionally. So no one can be blamed. According to the constitution, about ninety percent of the country’s executive branch, legislature and judiciary are in the hands of one person through the president. Therefore, the present system of government cannot be called democratic in any way.”
Jatiya Party presidium member Sahidur Rahman Tepar presided over the programme while the party’s co-chairman ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, presidium members Moshiur Rahman Ranga and advocate Md Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan also spoke, among others.
