No ground for self-satisfaction, DGHS on Covid decline
PBC News: Though the rate of coronavirus infection in the country is extremely low but there is no ground for self-satisfaction, Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, Director (Disease Control) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), has said.
Nazmul Islam said this in a virtual bulletin on Sunday regarding the situation of Covid-19.
He said, “The coronavirus infection rate is low all over the world. However, more than 25 crore 84 lakh people have already been infected with coronavirus worldwide. More than 50 lakh people have died from Coronavirus.”
The infection rate in the United States is much higher, said Nazmul adding that on the other hand, the infection rate in Africa is very low.
The director of the DGHS said, “The infection rate in India is declining in Southeast Asia. Infection in Bangladesh is very low compared to other countries in the world.”
“In the last 24 hours, 154 coronavirus patients have been identified in Bangladesh. Considering the tests, the detection rate is 1.16. Dhaka has the highest rate of infection among the top 10 districts in Bangladesh. A total of 5,26,977 people have been identified in Dhaka district.”
Nazmul Islam said, “The rate of coronavirus infection in the country has been below 2 percent for a week. It’s a matter of hope. But as a result, we have no chance to be satisfied.”
“We will be able to eradicate the pandemic only through the combined efforts of all and taking vaccine as well as adherence to strict health rules.”
