Govt depriving ailing Khaleda’s treatment abroad: Fakhrul
PBC News: Mentioning that BNP chief Khaleda Zia is on the verge of life and death, the party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the fascist government is still not allowing their party chief to go abroad for advanced treatment.
“Khaleda Zia is critically ill. She is on the verge of life and death in Evercare Hospital. This undisputed leader of the democratic movement in Bangladesh is a symbol of our courage, strength and democracy,” said Fakhrul at aprogrammer held in Dhaka on Saturday.
BNP arranged a mass hunger strike programme at its Nayapaltan central office demanding BNP chairperson Khaleda’s advanced treatment abroad.
Fakhrul further said, “The BNP chairperson needs better medical treatment abroad but the fascist government is still not allowing her to go abroad. We arranged the hunger strike to demand her release and advanced treatment abroad.”
He said, “We have to release Khaleda Zia and ready to do any sacrifice for this. So let us raise our hands today and take an oath that we will not return home until Begum Zia’s release and treatment abroad are met.”
BNP will hold rallies across the country, including the capital, on Monday, demanding the immediate release of critically ill Khaleda Zia for better treatment abroad, said Fakhrul adding that they would announce tougher programme if their demands are not fulfilled by the time
This government has unjustly kept Begum Zia in jail, alleged Fakhrul.
He said, “We have talked to doctors at home and abroad, they have told us that Begum Zia has been provided the required treatment inside the country. But there are some complications that require advanced treatment abroad.”
Fakhrul said, “Her (Khaleda) family had appealed to the government to grant her medical treatment abroad, but the government refused. We want to make it clear that Khaleda Zia should be treated abroad without delay. Otherwise, this illegitimate government would be ousted through a tough movement.”
The BNP leaders broke the hunger strike by sipping water offered by Dhaka University ex-Vice-chancellor Prof Anwar Ullah Chowdhury around 4pm.
BNP Standing Committee members Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy; chairperson advisers Aman Ullah Aman, Abdus Salam, and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others, were present.
Khaleda, a 76-year-old former prime minister, was readmitted to Evercare Hospital on 13 November, six days after she had returned home from the hospital.
The BNP chief’s physicians said she has been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, ophthalmological and dental complications.
They also said she is now suffering from critical cardiac, kidney problems while her blood sugar is out of control and hemoglobin level in her blood has dropped.
On behalf of the family, Khaleda’s younger brother, Shamim Iskander, submitted an application to the Home Ministry on 11 November urging the government to allow her to go abroad for better treatment.
