Police foil BNP’s hunger strike in Khulna
PBC News: Police obstructed Khulna Metropolitan BNP leaders and activists for holding mass hunger strike in the city on Saturday.
The BNP men alleged that the law enforcers tried to remove them from the road when they gathered in front of the party office at 9am to take part in the protest programme
Khulna Metropolitan unit BNP assistant office secretary Shamsuzzaman Chanchal said police foiled their mass hunger strike and also locked into altercation with the BNP men.
Later, the law enforcers also picked up some of their party men from the spot, he alleged.
Nazrul Islam Manju, president of the city unit BNP, said, “We have gathered for a peaceful programme and it’s not a political process. But the cops are stopping us.”
Sadar Police Station OC Hasan Al Mamun said that no one would be allowed to participate in any programme by occupying roads and obstructing traffic. “The party has been asked to hold its programme inside the BNP office.”
The BNP has started nationwide seven-hour mass hunger strike to press home its demand for sending critically ill Khaleda Zia abroad for advanced treatment. The programme will continue till 4pm.
