Five involved in anti-state propaganda by creating cyber force: RAB
PBC News: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested five youths from Swamibagh in Dhaka for their alleged involvement in spreading anti-state campaign by forming cyber force.
The arrested persons were Md Abdullah Al Mahmud, 29, Md Wayez Kuruni, 27, Md Towhidul Islam, 26, Md Gazi Sakhawat, 29, and Md Habibur Rahman, 30.
They were arrested on Thursday evening during a drive at Swamibagh area by RAB-3 personnel.
Laptops, portable hard disks, leaflets used to instigate vandalism and anti-state activities were seized from their possession, RAB said on Friday.
During primary interrogation, thge RAB-3 claimed that the arrested youths told investigators that they used to send misinformation about Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies to foreign media.
Mahmud and Towhid were wanted in several cases of vandalism and terrorism lodged at different police stations, the RAB said, adding that “legal action is underway against the arrested persons.”
Addressing a press conference at the Media office of RAB at Kawranbazar in the capital on Friday afternoon, RAB’s Legal and Mass Media Wing director Commander Khondker Al Moyeen said the arrested youths were gathered at Swamibagh house arriving from different parts of the country. “Those who are active to tarnish the country’s image on social media, they make contact with them through different closed groups or telegram. They were involved in various policies and strategies of conspiracy centering Bangladesh,” he said.
The arrested five youths tried to divert the recent movement of students demanding road safety, which they have ‘confessed’ to investigatorts, said the RAB official.
The RAB personnel also seized cash Tk 2 lakh during the arrest of five youths.
“They have received the money from various sources at home and abroad. They used social media to create anarchy, chaos and indiscipline in the society. They also had contact with the Facebook page admins who are involved in tarnishing the country’s image,” he said.
