Patients at risk to get booster dose: DGHS
PBC News: The age limit for giving booster dose of Covid-19 vaccine to comorbid and other critically ill patients will be relaxed said Prof Dr ABM Khurshid Alam, the director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.
“Apart from SMS, comorbid patients, who are under the age of 60, will be able to get vaccinated at the previous center and they will have to show the proof of the disease,” said DGHS director general while talking to members of Bangladesh Health Reporters Forum at his office in Dhaka.
Khurshid Alam said, “Those who have co-morbidity, who are at health risk, can take a booster dose. In that case age will not be a barrier.”
The country has started administration of booster doses of Covid-19 vaccine on December 28. Currently, people over the age of 60 and those in the front-line are receiving booster doses.
The DGHS DG further said Coronavirus patients are at higher risk of death, they should take booster dose. “One man has cancer, but he is 40 years old. Why would he be dropped? We will arrange for him to be vaccinated.”
He said, “All the information has been taken while registering for the vaccine. It can be confirmed by looking at this registration whether the patient has comorbidity. And if someone doesn’t provide that information at the time of registration, then he will show the proper documents.”
