CEC Huda sued for contempt of court
PBC News: A contempt of court case has been filed against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda for not implementing the High Court directive to register Gana Sanghati Andolan as the political party.
Advocate Jyotirmoy Barua said the party’s chief coordinator Junaid Saki on Thursday filed the case with the concerned division of the High Court.
On December 28 in 2017, an application was made to the Election Commission to register Gana Sanghati Andolan as the political party.
On June 19, the Commission in a letter informed that registration of the party could not be done.
Later, Junaid Saki filed a writ petition with the High Court as the Election Commission did not register their party.
On April 11, 2019, following the hearing of both the parties, the High Court directed to complete the legal process of registration of the party within 30 days of receiving the copy of the verdict.
The attested copy of the verdict and order was submitted to the Election Commission within stipulated time and the court also sent their verdict copy to the Commission.
Advocate Jyotirmoy Barua said despite the clear verdict and direction of the court, the Election Commission did not take any action within the stipulated time.
