Teenager raped in Dhaka, prime accused arrested

PBC News: Rapid Action Bttalion (RAB) has arrested the prime accused of rape of a teenage girl after abducting her from Lalbagh area in old Dhaka. The arrested youth Monir Hossain Shuvo, 22, is a BBA student. Another one named Al Amin, who was with Shuvo, is absconding.

A team of RAB arrested Shuvo from Lalbagh area early Thursday, said Khandker Al Moin, RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director, at a press conference on Thursday.

The RAB official said, “Shuvo was arrested on Wednesday (February 16) night. He is being interrogated over the matter.”

The victim was allegedly held hostage and gang-raped for four days in the capital’s Lalbag area. She was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) immediately after she was rescued from in front of Raju Memorial Sculpture near Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday evening.

The 11th grader victim said that she came out of home for attending tuition class around 10:00am on February 12. On the way, Shuvo and Alamin stopped her and picked up to an unknown place. There she was raped by turns after forcibly feeding her sedatives. Shuvo and Alamin raped her for four days. On Wednesday afternoon, they left her near Raju Memorial Sculpture area.

Shuvo and Alamin both were acquainted to her from earlier.

The girl alleged Shuvo had been proposing her for love affairs for last several days. He started stalking her over phone after she refused his proposal.

It was learned that the girl informed the matter to a pedestrian on TSC area. Later, she was taken to DMCH.
