999 call: Kidnapped boy rescued from Tongi after 5-day
PBC News: Police on Saturday rescued a 14-year-old boy from Gazipur’s Tongi area, who was kidnapped by miscreants upon his arrival at Dhaka’s Sadarghat Launch Terminal from Barishal on February 21.
The victim is Arafat Hossain Sakib. He wanted to visit his elder brother’s house in Gazipur.
According to police, a person made a phone call to national emergency hotline number 999 and said Sakib made a call to him after reaching Sadarghat in the morning on February 21 and informed that he had reached Dhaka. But, he went missing after the phone call.
Later, one unknown person made a phone call to the caller’s elder brother and demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom if he wanted to get his brother back alive.
On February 22, the caller made phone call to 999 again and sought legal help from police to rescue his brother.
Constable Tuhin Rana received the phone call and immediately reported the matter to Dhaka’s Kotwali Police Station, South Keraniganj Police Station and Sadarghat Naval Police Station and requested for rescue of the boy.
Later, Sadarghat Naval Police Station conducted an operation in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba upazila and Monira Akhter Sadia, 22, in this connection.
Based on information obtained from accused Sadia, raids were conducted in different places of Habiganj and Comilla districts.
Finally, Sakib was rescued from Tongi area of Gazipur district, said Sadarghat Naval Police Station officer-in-charge Qayyum Ali Sardar.
