New US Ambassador Peter Haas arrives in Bangladesh
PBC News: Peter Haas, the new US Ambassador to Bangladesh, arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday. He arrived in Dhaka more than a month after previous ambassador Earl R Miller left for Washington. Haas most recently served as US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, said the US Embassy in Dhaka in a tweet.
The US Senate confirmed Haas, a career diplomat, as the ambassador to Bangladesh in December last year. On July 9 last year, President Joe Biden named Haas as the nominee for US Ambassador to Bangladesh. Haas worked as deputy assistant secretary for Trade Policy and Negotiations and served as head of the US Consulate General in Mumbai, India.
Haas has also served as the Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Permanent Representative at the US mission to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and Economic Counsellor at the US Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Other diplomatic postings of Peter Haas include London, Rabat, Washington, Port-au-Prince and Berlin.
He holds a BA in International Studies and German from Illinois Wesleyan University. He attended the London School of Economics as a Marshall Scholar, where he earned MSc (Econ) degrees in both Politics of the World Economy and Comparative Government.
