Trial of Pori Moni stayed for 3 months in drug case
PBC News: The ongoing trial proceedings in a drug case filed against actor Pori Moni.was stayed for three months by High Court on Tuesday.
At the same time, the High Court issued a rule asking the government and police why the charge framing order in the case would not be quashed.
A bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Salim passed the order on Tuesday afternoon asking the government and police to explain in four weeks why the proceedings in the case against Pori Moni would not be quashed.
The bench issued the ruling after hearing a petition filed by Pori Moni for quashing proceedings against her.
Earlier, judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of Dhaka Special Court 10 recorded deposition of one prosecution witness in the case, assistant attorney general Mizanur Rahman said.
The judge on January 5 framed charges against Pori Moni and her two associates — Ashraful Islam Dipu and Kabir Hossain — in the case.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and investigation officer Kazi Golam Mostafa submitted the charge-sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka on October 4 last year.
Pori Moni was interrogated in three phases since RAB arrested her on August 4, 2021.
Later, a case was filed against the actress for illegal possession of alcohol and drugs in her house.
Pori Moni’s lawyers ZI Khan Panna and Syeda Nasrin contended in the High Court that the actress committed no illegality in possessing and consuming liquor as she had a license to do so.
Pori Moni made headlines in June 2021 after she went on Facebook live accusing businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmood and some others of trying to rape and kill her at Boat Club in Dhaka.
