Shitalakhya launch capsize death toll rises to 11
PBC News: With the recovery of three more bodies, the death toll from Sunday’s launch capsize in the river Shitalakhya at Char Sayedpur in Narayanganj with dozens of passengers rose to 11.
Bodies of two, including a children, were recovered from in front of Shah Cement Factory in Mukhapur and Haripur Power Plant at 9am on Tuesday while another was recovered after some time.
Narayanganj River Police Station SI Hafizur Rahman confirmed the news.
Launch ‘ML Afsar Uddin’,’ which left Narayanganj launch ghat at about 1:58pm on Sunday, capsized in the river Shitalakhya being rammed by a cargo vessel ‘MV Ruposhi-9’ at about 2:30pm.
Fifteen passengers were rescued soon after the accident.
