Minister admits his failure
PBC News: Nomination of Md Amir Hamza in Independence Award 2022 list is a failure of the award selection committee, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said.
“This is my failure as well as the failure of committee,” said Mozammel Haque, also convener of the cabinet committee on national awards, at a press conference held at his office in Dhaka on Wednesday.
On March 15, the government issued a notification by picking 10 individuals including Amir Hamza and one institution for this year’s Independence Award. Amir Hamza was named for the award in literature category.
The Cabinet Division published a revised list of winners of the Independence Award 2022 after dropping Amir Hamza’s name amid criticism on March 18, .
Mentioning journalists the minister said, “The power of pen is more than any other power. You have proved it. The truth has been revealed through your writing.”
He further said, “We correct mistakes when we make mistakes. Mistakes can happen, as human beings we are not above mistakes. But we should have been more careful.”
The minister said, “A lot of misinformation about Amir Hamza was submitted to the committee. We will check who gave wrong information. It will be discussed in the committee forum. We have corrected what went wrong. We don’t want to make mistakes again and again.”
The committee certainly did mistake while performing the duties, said Mozammel Haque adding that “How does this mistake happened? This is my personal failure as well as the collective failure of the committee.
