Passenger held with Tk 3.20cr gold at Ctg airport

The market value of the seized gold bars and chains is worth Tk 3.20 crore, Customs officials said.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID) officials said they had received information that a passenger from Sharjah would come to the country with gold bars.

Later, a team of the CIID conducted the drive and found the gold bars and chains were wrapped with black adhesive tapes around his body,

They then seized the gold bars and chains, worth about Tk 3.20 cores, from Saiful during the search, said AKM Sultan Mahmud, deputy commissioner of the Customs Intelligence.

Sultan Mahmud further said the detained Saiful used to visit Dubai regularly. He went Dubai twice in May last. “We think that he was used as a professional carrier for smuggling gold into the country.”
