Helpless people don’t seek justice now: Prof Serajul Islam
PBC News: Common people of the country are now helpless and they do not seek justice for any incident, emeritus professor Serajul Islam Choudhury has said.
He further said rich people of Bangladesh are becoming richer while poor are poorer.
Serajul Islam made the remarks at a discussion arranged by ‘Bam Oikya Front’ at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital on Friday.
Mentioning that Bangladesh is now a fully capitalist state, Professor Serajul Islam said, “Attempts were made to implement such type of state during the British and Pakistani periods. This was later implemented in Bangladesh. Needless to say that the rich have become richer in the country, the poor are poorer.”
He said, “Everyone is saying that capitalism will not work, socialism should be established. Capitalism can no longer be an alternative to capitalism.”
There will be a social revolution all over the world, said Serajul adding “We have to prepare for it. Power must be decentralized. And that is why this revolution is needed.”
“If we understand the history of Maulana Bhasani, we will understand what we have to do. If we look at the 14 points that he formulated then we can understand how advanced his thinking was.”
Serjaul said, “There was no revolutionary organization for him (Maulana Bhasani) and there were no necessary activities at that time. At present, in order to implement this revolution, we need cultural revolution and the practice of knowledge.”
Communist Union convener Comrade Imam Ghazzali presented the keynote and said that the electoral system in Bangladesh has completely collapsed. “A fascist regime is continuing. The present government is using both the religion and the spirit of the Liberation war to survive.”
Bam Oikya Front coordinator Nasir Uddin Ahmed Nasur presided over the discussion, which was attended, among others, by Professor Anu Mohammad and leaders of various organizations.
