MP Bahauddin was requested humbly, not ordered: CEC
PBC News: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said Cumilla-6 Awami League lawmaker AKM Bahauddin Bahar was requested to leave the election area in Cumilla, not ordered.
The Election Commission can never order anyone to leave the area, the CEC told this to newsmen during a post-election view exchange meeting in Dhaka at 11 am on Monday.
CEC Habibul Awal said,”We did not see him taking part in any campaign. But some claimed that he campaigned secretly. So, we hoped that if we requested him to refrain from it, the issue would be solved.”
“The news was spread that despite ordering, the MP did not obey the order. It is not completely true. Why the lawmaker, the Election Commission can not order any public to leave the area.”
A letter was sent to Bahauddin from the Election Commission on June 8 where he was requested to leave the election area.
