Extremism emerges in a country in absence of democracy: Fakhrul

Extremism usually appears in a country where democracy is suppressed deliberately commented , Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

“Awami League has been suppressing the democracy in Bangladesh. As a result, evil forces like extremists are appearing in the country,” he said while talking to journalists at his Tantipara residence in Thakurgaon town on Wednesday afternoon.

Fakhrul alleged that the government has sued the opposition leaders in a planned way over sculpture.

“It’s the task of Awami League led government to implicate the opposition party leaders in false and fabricated cases,” he alleged.

The BNP leader said Awami League has become afraid of democracy, and fair elections. They want to cling to power through false cases against the opposition leaders and workers. They always think how to implicate the BNP leaders and workers in false and fabricated cases. They want to reap political benefits from it.

“Awami League came to power after long 21 years. General Ershad ruled the country for nine years, while Ayub Khan ruled the country for 12 years. When such an autocrat comes to power, their fascism comes to an end by the people. That time has come. It is not very far from now that the country will be free from the misrule of Awami League,” he said.

Thakurgaon Municipality Mayor and District BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, District BNP Vice-President Al Mamun, Finance Secretary Shariful Islam, Upazila BNP General Secretary Abdul Hamid, Thakurgaon Municipality councilor Ataur Rahman and Jubo Dal leader Tuhin, among others, were present at that time.

Later, he left Thakurgaon for Dhaka.
