Reactor pit unit 1 completed in Roopur NPP
After postponing the construction work due to the ongoing pandemic the project started again as Reactor pit construction at Rooppur nuclear power project (NPP) unit No.1 in Bangladesh has been completed, said a Rosatom press release.
Rosatom is the Russian state nuclear agency which remained engaged as contractor for the Rooppur NPP.
“We left no stone unturned in order to complete the milestones of 2020. Construction personnel of TrestRosSEM LLC completed the reactor pit construction from the top of the cantilever-truss till the bottom of floor at elevation +26.300 meters at power unit No.1 ahead of schedule”, said Sergey Lastochkin, ASE EC JSC Vice President – Rooppur NPP Construction Project Director.
The NPP construction proceeds at good bat, he added.
The Rosatom said the reactor concrete pit is both a biological shielding and a load bearing structure inside the containment of the reactor compartment.
The next step is to complete flooring at elevation +26.300 meters and, thus, to prepare the scope of work for Energospetsmontazh PJSC specialists on installation of heavy equipment, including installation of the reactor vessel into its design location, it said.
Rooppur NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors and the total capacity of 2400 MW is being constructed based on the Russian design, 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with the General Contract dated December 25, 2015. The General Contractor for Rooppur NPP construction is Atomstroyexport (the Engineering Division of Rosatom).
The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh, which was successfully implemented at two power units of Novovoronezh NPP. This is an evolutionary GenIII+ design that fully complies with all international safety requirements.
