RU student’s death: Sufferings of patients mount as RMCH interns continue strike
PBC News: Intern doctors of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) went on an indefinite strike from early Thursday protesting an attack and vandalism carried out by the students of Rajshahi University (RU) following the death of their fellow.
Brig General Shamim Yeazdani, director of RMCH, said the interns are on strike protesting the attack on them by the students and for ensuring a safe environment for treatment.
The suffering of the patients at the hospital mounted as the intern refused to give services.
“A total of 280 interns are at the hospital. All of them are now on strike which collapsed the hospital. Senior doctors are giving services. We are trying to return back the intern doctor to work, ” said director Shamim.
Shahriar, a final-year student of Rajshahi University (RU), died on Wednesday night after falling off from the third floor of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall of the university.
Following his death, the agitated students ransacked the hospital, bringing allegation of negligence on the part of the doctors. Later, students vandalized the hospital while being chased by police inside the facility.
