Argument with AL MP: Barguna police official transferred
PBC News: Additional Police Super has been transferred to Barishal following his baton charge on Chhatra League leaders and workers in front of ruling Awami League lawmaker at a National Mourning Day programme in Barguna on Monday (August 15).
He said, “The decision has been taken taking overall situation into consideration.
“Barguna incident has come under widespread criticism. We’ll investigate the role of the police and what happened at the spot.”
One of the rival groups of Barguna Chhatra League praised the role of police, while another group criticised. Police will investigate everything staying impartial on its position, he said.
Barguna District Chhatra League’s conference was held at Sirajuddin Town Hall Auditorium on July 17 last after long eight years. After a week, central Chhatra League president and general secretary gave approval of new committee of the District Chhatra League. Then the names of 33-member committee were announced. Since then a group of the BCL had been rejecting the approved committee as they were not accommodated in the new committee.
In sequel to it, several BCL leaders and activists launched an attack on a rival group of BCL in front of Shilpakala Academy after placing wreaths on Bangabandhu’s portrait at Bangabandhu Smrity Complex at about 12:00 noon on Monday. At that time, two rival groups locked in clash. Amid the clash, police went there and charged batons on BCL activists.
At that time, Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu MP of Barguna-1 constituency, Barguna Poura mayor Kamrul Ahsan Moharaj and District Jubo League president Rezaul Karim Atom were present.
Rezaul Karim Atom said MP Shambhu arrived at Shilpakala Academy premises after the situation brought under control. He then wanted to know charging batons of BCL activists from additional police super Maharram Ali.
Then Maharram Ali said, “Sir, Chhatra League vandalised our vehicle. We didn’t touch them. You must reply why did they damage our car.”
In reply, the MP said, “What do you do? Do you want to beat them after detaining? Why you didn’t intercepted them?”
In response, the police official said, “We will file cases against them.”
Additional Police Super SM Tareque Rahman, who was present there during the altercation, told Shambhu MP, “Sir, you know it very well that if we want to resist them, we will have to apply force. It would not be good for you.”
