Hearing on cancellation of Samrat’s bail Tuesday
PBC News: The High Court has fixed Tuesday for the hearing on the petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission which sought the cancellation former Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat’s bail in a graft case.
An HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khijir Hayat passed the order on Monday.
Advocate Khurshid Alam, a counsel of the anti-graft body, filed the petition to High Court this morning.
Samrat was released on August 22 after securing bail in all four cases.
Three days after being released on bail from jail, he staged a show-down appearing in public on Friday (August 26).
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat from Cumilla for his involvement in illegal gambling racket on October 6, 2019.
RAB conducted a raid on Samrat’s office in Kakrail’s Bhuiyan Trade Centre and recovered a foreign pistol, yaba tablets, bottles of foreign liquor, and two kangaroo hides.
A mobile court handed Samrat a six-month jail sentence for possession of the kangaroo skins under the Wild Animal Protection Act.
He was sent to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
Later, two more cases were filed against him with Ramna Police Station, under the Narcotics Control Act and Arms Act.
